WordPress.com

WordPress.com is the hosted service from Automattic, the company behind much of WordPress development. It runs the WordPress software for you, so updates, security and backups are handled on its side, and you work in the familiar WordPress editor.

Plans run from a free blog on a wordpress.com address to paid plans that add a custom domain, plugins, custom themes and e-commerce. Its AI assistant in the block editor can draft and edit posts, suggest titles and translate text, which helps when you start with an empty site.

Check which plan allows plugins and custom themes before you build, since the free and lower plans limit them. If you might move to another host later, confirm how export works. WordPress.com is a hosting service, while WordPress.org is the free software you can install on any host.
